The green overlooking the desert and mountains in the distance at The Gallery

The Gallery

The Gallery Golf Club was established in 1998 with the completion of the North Course, a design collaboration between Tom Lehman and John Fought. Soon after, Fought’s solo effort resulted in the South Course, opening in 2003, making The Gallery Golf Club the only 36-hole private golf & country club in Southern Arizona. The Gallery has played host to several elite golf tournaments, including co-host of the 2000 Touchstone Energy Tucson Open (North Course) as well as the Accenture Match Play Championships in 2007 and 2008 (South Course).

Lehman has won 35 professional golf events including the 1996 Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St. Anne’s Golf Club. He has designed or renovated more than two dozen courses over his career, including The Dune Course at The Prairie Club, an America’s Top 100 Course. Fought has 5 professional wins, 2 on the PGA TOUR as well as a top 5 finish in the 1983 PGA Championship at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles, CA. With dozens of renovations and original designs, Fought has been racking up design awards and was recently selected for a Donald Ross renovation project at Rosedale Golf Club in Canada.

The two courses boast amazing views but are quite spectacular in their own ways. The North Course hugs the Tortolita Mountains, which greatly influences play. Rugged and with several large elevation changes, it boasts some difficult approach shots both up and down hill. The South Course plays down valley on the outward 9 and up valley on the inward 9. It is more forgiving off the tee than its northern brother, but it plays somewhat longer. Most of all, the South Course has incredibly sophisticated green complexes, making it challenging to get the ball close to the hole. Both have an incredible tee-to-green routing and the designers make excellent use of the natural terrain to give the courses a comfortable fit with their surroundings.
